What Is Digital Locker And How To Use It.

Central government Of India (department of electronics and information technology) has launched a scheme called Digital Locker under Digital India programme on July 1 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Anyone who have an Aadhaar card can login to Digital Locker and upload scanned copies of all the important documents like 10th marksheet, 12th marksheet, Graduation certificate, Driving License, PAN card, Electricity bill , Passport etc. So whenever, you will need those documents (for verification by govt agencies while applying for any service etc), you can directly give your locker number and it is done. No more hassles of carrying those documents and tons of photocopies.

What is Digital Locker?

Dedicated personal storage space, linked to each resident’s Aadhaar Card. DigiLocker can be used to securely store e-documents as well as store Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) link of e-documents issued by various issuer departments. The e-Sign facility provided as part of DigiLocker system can be used to digitally sign e-documents.

You need to have a valid Aadhaar number registered with Aadhaar To Sign-up for the Digilocker

  • First login to DigiLocker Site Here
  • Type your Aadhaar number in the text box against “Enter Aadhaar Number”
  • For user authentication, You will be given two options, “Use OTP” and “Use Fingerprint”. Click any one you want to use.

  • After clicking on “Use OTP”, You will get a One Time Password on registered mobile number and email ID.
  • Enter the OTP and you can see your dashboard (Image below) , now you will be able to upload your documents.

Structure of the Digital Locker:-

Each user’s digital locker has the following sections:
My Certificates:- This section comprises of two sub sections:
Digital Documents: This contains the URI’s of the documents issued to the user by Govt. departments or other agencies.

Uploaded Documents:- This subsection lists all the documents which are uploaded by the user. Each file to be uploaded should not be more than 1MB in size. Only pdf, jpeg, png, bmp jpg and gif file types can be uploaded.

My Profile:- This section displays the complete profile of the user as available in the UIDAI database.

My Issuer:- This section displays the issuers’ names and the number of documents issued to the user by the issuer.
My Requester: This section displays the requesters names and the number of documents requested from the user by the requesters.

Directories:- This section displays the complete list of registered issuers and requesters along with their URLs.

How Digital Locker help me?

It will minimize the use of physical documents and will provide authenticity of the e-documents It will provide secure access to Govt. issued documents. It will also reduce administrative overhead of Govt. departments and agencies and make it easy for the residents to receive services

After you’ve signed up, you can upload your government documents to the DIGILocker.Place all educational, passport, medical and PAN card details of every Indian in a digital form over a cloud storage system so that he can access them all from anywhere in the world without having to carry all the documents physically.
