What is Corona Virus Test?

This is a laboratory test that can identify the virus that causes COVID-19. This test is intended for the detection of the SARS-CoV-2.

Method – Real-Time PCR
It makes use of Real-Time Reverse Transcriptase (RT)-PCR Diagnostic Panels.

Mandatory requirements:

As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) guidelines, Government ID ( Aadhaar card / Voter Id / Passport ) to support the current address and contact number of the suspect case should be given at the time of sample collection.

It is mandatory for the suspect patient to possess the doctor’s prescription at the time of sample collection. The prescription should have the Doctor’s medical registration number and Doctor’s stamp.The suspect case will also be asked about travel history and Covid-19 patient interaction (if any).

Home sample collection service is NOT AVAILABLE. We shall help you book a test. The sample collection will happen at the specified collection centers of the lab. The address of the same will be intimated over a phone call from our support team.

Not everyone needs to be tested for COVID-19. Here is some information that might help in making decisions about seeking testing.

All asymptomatic individuals who have undertaken international travel in the last 14 days:

They should stay in the home quarantine for 14 days. 

They should be tested only if they become symptomatic (fever, cough, difficulty in breathing) 

All family members living with a confirmed case should be home quarantined.

 

All symptomatic contacts of laboratory-confirmed cases.

iii. All symptomatic health care workers.

All hospitalized patients with Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (fever AND cough and/or shortness of breath).

Asymptomatic direct and high-risk contacts of a confirmed case should be tested once between day 5 and day 14 of coming in his/her contact.

Direct and high-risk contact include those who live in the same household with a confirmed case and healthcare workers who examined a confirmed case without adequate protection as per WHO.

This booking is subject to the fulfillment and verification of mandatory requirements by Third Party Labs. Third-Party Labs will verify the mandatory requirements forwarded by you and in case of Third-Party Lab(s) observe any discrepancy, the Third-Party Lab (s) will cancel the order immediately. We will call you to confirm all the details and take the booking ahead accordingly.

What is the sample type to be given and what is the medium of sample collection?

As of now, the recommended method for testing is RT-PCR.

Do I need to get my family tested too if I have symptoms and my doctor has prescribed the test for me?

Ans. Not everyone needs to be tested for COVID-19. Your doctor will decide whether or not your family needs the test. Here is some information that might help in making decisions about testing: 1- All family members living with a confirmed case should be home quarantined. They should be tested only if they become symptomatic (fever, cough, difficulty in breathing). 2- Family member’s testing will be subject to fulfilling the mandatory requirements and prescription with a physician signature along with stamp with referring doctor’s prescription.

Will I have to visit any of the nearby centers to book the test or give the samples?

What’s the process of sample transportation?

Ans. The sample will be collected in a viral transport medium (VTM) for maintaining the stability of the sample. This sample is then further transported in a cold chain.
